Seeing the Possibilities

According to the Census and Statistics Department, the unemployment rate amongst youth in Hong Kong to be 17.7% between 15 – 19 years of age, and 10.1% between 20 – 24 years of age (3rd quarter, 2015). With unemployment rate on a rise, it is easy for a young person to lose faith in the future ahead. Lacking employment opportunities and self-awareness, unemployed youth are more likely to turn to drugs as a way to relief the state of depression, boredom or anxiety.

As a way of broadening the vision of our youth, “Seeing the Possibilities” allows local and ethnic minority students to work with mentors within their own communities as a means to develop life goals together through fashion arts and event-planning training. Working hand-in-hand with role models from similar cultural background, the programme provides students with the opportunity to gain social network within the community and engages students in training sessions that are targeted at enhancing their capacities in the areas of self-awareness, goal-setting, event planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. By equipping students with such skills, this programme aims to motivate youth to set goals that are most suited to their needs and ultilise these learned assets as the foundation to prepare for the bright future ahead.
