Moody’s RiseUp: Reach, Inspire, Succeed, Excel (2015-2016)

Moody’s RiseUp aims to help ethnic minority young people from some of the most deprived districts in Hong Kong to develop life skills and resilience along with a creative skill. Participants attend weekly, interactive workshops that focus on a series of life skills including goal setting, problem solving and team work. They go on to learn technical and creative skills in a creative medium, for example photography, print media or videography. Mentors are an important part of this process and develop positive and supportive relationships with the young people over the course of the programme. Participants use the new knowledge and skills to express their own and other’s experience of life in Hong Kong through the creative medium, including facing obstacles such as inequalities and discrimination and strategies to overcome these. The programme ends with an exhibition in a commercial gallery, showcasing the work of the students.

The aims of the programme are to support participants to:

  • gain access to better social and economic opportunities;
  • motivate them through life skills training;
  • encourage them to see different perspectives and express them through a creative medium;
  • use mentors as positive and supportive role models
