Message from the Chair

Message from Fern Ngai, Chair of KELY Support Group

For over 20 years KELY Support Group (KELY) has been at the forefront in helping vulnerable young people across Hong Kong develop important life skills to address issues such as drugs and alcohol addictions.  We have been working in partnership with sponsors, funders, and donors to not only help youth understand these issues, but to come up with effective solutions for individual change as well as take on leadership roles in the wider community.

KELY is a unique non-government funded, bilingual organisation that also embraces diversity when it comes to engaging our youth on their issues.  We recognise both the commonalities and differences of our 3 target groups and actively involve them in all aspects of our projects and services as well as cultivate a diverse environment of mutual respect and cooperation.

Our standards at KELY remain extremely high in order to match the service needs and expectations of our stakeholders, donors and community partners.  We approach the issue of young drugs and alcohol abuse through exploring various root causes such as poverty, peer pressure, and the lack of socio and economic opportunities facing our youth.

We aim to target the root of each issue by conducting planning and research with  the assistance of leading universities in Hong Kong, as well as implement proven strategies adapted from other markets using innovative and creative methodologies.  Combined with measuring results using key performance indicators, we ensure that our project objectives are being met and that our efforts have a sustainable impact.

I am proud to be part of KELY and fully endorse our peer support, mentorship and leadership approach in helping our youth make informed choices.   Our core values - supportive, non-judgmental, confidential, empathetic and inclusive - continue to define who we are as well as guide us when we interact with the thousands of youths who seek our assistance.

I thank you for perusing our website and encourage you to become a part of KELY.  Whether it is through your volunteerism, affiliation, partnership or donation, you are not only helping to improve the lives of our vulnerable youth but also investing in the future of Hong Kong.

Sincerely,

Fern Ngai
