Message from the Chair

For over 19 years, the KELY Support Group has been working to provide services for our young people.  We contribute to the Hong Kong community through our non-judgmental peer support philosophy and our work with young people.

The years between childhood and adulthood can be difficult for someone growing up in a large city with a competitive educational system like Hong Kong.  Some young people are in danger of getting lost in the system, of losing their way, of becoming marginalized from their families.  Where do they go when they are confused and upset? Who and what do they turn to for comfort?  Some turn to drugs, alcohol and other means of getting rid of negative emotions.  In other cases, they become angry, anti-social and refuse to work at school.

We continue to have high aspirations for our young people, but the world is becoming increasingly complex and competitive.  As a society, we must protect our youth and guide them in coping and managing with the stresses of growing up.  At KELY, we provide opportunities for young people to express themselves, to understand their feelings, to develop a sense of confidence that help them through difficult situations.  We encourage them to learn the language of sharing their feelings, of comforting others and of negotiating with adults.

The KELY Board continues to be committed towards supporting young people.  Statistics are shocking though, and we need to be aware that drug abuse and alcohol, chronic low self-esteem, low self-confidence, suicidal tendencies, and negative body image, are very present dangers for our young people.

Please do consider supporting our work.  When you have looked through this site and seen the work we carry out, you may find programmes that you especially want to support.  Do contact us with your ideas and suggestions.  We need your support and would encourage you to donate regularly to our work.

All the best,

Diane Bohm
