Island School Mental Health Awareness Day

23-02-2016

With an aim to raise awareness about mental health within school communities, KELY Support Group has been working together with a student-led group from Island School, IslandMinds, to organise a Mental Health Awareness Event on 25 February, 2016.

According to the research by Hong Kong’s Mental Health Month Organising Committee in 2014, the average mental health index decreased from 64 to 53 among respondents aged 15 to 24. Bearing in mind the index ranges from 0 to 100, with 50 as the passing mark to being “mentally healthy”, the decline in young individual's mental health is an illustration of the distressing situation facing young people today – a critical one that needs to be addressed and understood by our community.

We hope this event will educate and provide insights into the importance of mental health, and further reduce the social stigma that is deeply rooted in Hong Kong’s society today. The event will run from 3:30PM - 6:00PM, featuring an expert speaking panel by two professionals from the field, and interactive workshops to introduce mindfulness, where audience will be able to take home helpful techniques to keep the mind focused and be present. The event will also feature music performances by students from Island School, with refreshments served throughout the afternoon.

You may find the event details and speakers’ biography listed below. To RSVP, please indicate your attendance on IslandMinds’ Facebook event page

We look forward to seeing you on 25 Feb, and hope that you can continue to stand by us to raise awareness on the issues affecting young people in Hong Kong.
