Drug Information Centre

The KELY Support Group took a group to the Drug Information Centre in Admiralty.

The centre includes an interactive theatre where visitors are able to vote to decide the characters' decisions. You can explore drug-related information and games at the info-café. For schools, a classroom is provided for discussions. The 'suitcases' and the 'backdrop wall' look at real-life situations where drugs have affected ones life. There is also comprehensive information about addictive drugs.

When asked what he found was the most interesting aspect in the centre, Yugo (18) a peer-support trainee from Island School said that he was intrigued by everything in the centre. He liked the personal stories related to real life situations and individuals.

Hana (16) also from Island School said she was most interested in the distortion camera, which showed how a drug addict views the world. She feels that the centre changed how she perceived drugs - she now views them as being much more dangerous.

In my opinion, the centre is beneficial to educate visitors using real personal experiences, bare facts and interactive videos. The centre makes you think twice about drugs, leaving you well informed and, in some cases, shocked by the consequences.
